Jamaludin has more than 40 years of experience, including about 16 years in IT and 23 years in telecommunications. Outside ICT, he has been involved in many other areas, especially in education. Jamaludin heads Axiata Group Berhad as Managing Director/ President & Group Chief Executive Officer for more than 12 years, having helmed the organisation since its inception in 2008. He was also the Chairman of Celcom Axiata Berhad until October 2020 and a Board member of PT XL Axiata Tbk. Jamaludin joined Axiata after more than 10 years with Maxis Communications Berhad since 1997. He was made the Chief Operating Officer the same year and the Chief Executive Officer a year later until he retired in 2008. For about four years (1993-1997), he led Digital Equipment Malaysia as its Managing Director. Prior to that, he spent about 12 years in IBM (1981-1993) the first five years as a Systems Engineer and then in various positions in Sales, Marketing and Management. He briefly left IBM in 1982 to join UMBC Bank as a credit officer for about six months before rejoining IBM. His career began in 1980 as a lecturer in Quantitative Methods at California State University, USA. He has served as a board member of GSMA, the worlds biggest Mobile Association for six two-year terms (over a period between 2003 to 2020) and was the Deputy Chairman in 2014. Jamaludin has also served as a director at an IT solutions provider, Heitech Padu Berhad (2000-2006). Jamaludin has served the government in many roles. In March 2020, Jamaludin was appointed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia as a member of the country's Economic Action Council. He was involved in education in various capacities including as a board member of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (2006-2008) and Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (2007-2011). Jamaludin had also served as a member of the Board of the government-owned venture capital company, Mavcap Bhd (2001-2005) and a few others. |
