Axiata Group Berhad Media Statement

Kuala Lumpur, 4 February 2016 - In reference to the article in The Edge Financial Daily, “Spectrum reallocation to change telcos’ dynamics’, dated 4 February 2016 and the Company’s recent Investors’ Briefing, Axiata wishes to clarify that the comment on RM1 billion–RM2 billion cost made by the Company was in no reference to spectrum fees or pricing for the newly allocated 900MHz and 1800MHz spectrum bands to Celcom Axiata Berhad ("Celcom"). Currently, Axiata has not received any information on spectrum fees or pricing. 

Axiata also wishes to clarify that the amount quoted in the article refers to Celcom’s 10-year net present value of additional expenditure, namely sites and equipment required to achieve its long term plan on network quality and coverage due to the loss of 7MHz of 900MHz spectrum band and 5MHz of 1800MHz spectrum band. Depending on the timing and the amount of LTE spectrum Celcom hopes to obtain in the future, especially in the 700MHz spectrum band, these estimates could be lower.
